Our Beginnings
Matthew G. Strobel, Psy.D. founded Navesink Psychological Services to close a gap he saw firsthand in the local mental health community: access to evidence-based care.
Working in community settings, Dr. Strobel was frequently asked by clients for referrals to therapists who could continue the support he'd started. He was glad they trusted his judgment, but too often found himself without a strong referral to offer. Qualified, evidence-based providers outside that setting were hard to come by.
Already licensed to provide these services himself, Dr. Strobel saw the solution clearly: build the resource that was missing. Navesink Psychological Services was created to give clients and their families a place to turn for high-quality, evidence-based treatment, close to home.
Who We Are Today
What started as one psychologist filling a gap has grown into a team. Navesink Psychological Services is now a group practice serving children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families across Monmouth County and the surrounding area, led by a licensed psychologist and supported by clinicians and evaluators with experience across schools, outpatient settings, sports, and performance environments.
Our Approach
Evidence-based care means more than a buzzword to us. It means our therapists and evaluators use treatment methods backed by research, track progress over time, and adjust care based on what's actually working, not what's convenient. At NPS, that commitment shows up in how we work, not just in what we say.
Our Teams
Navesink Psychological Services is organized into five specialized teams, each focused on a distinct area of care.
Treatment Team
Our Treatment Team provides individual, couples, and family therapy, along with sport and performance psychology services for athletes and performers working through the mental side of their performance.
Evaluation Team
Our Evaluation Team conducts comprehensive assessments for ADHD, autism, and learning disabilities including dyslexia, along with testing accommodation evaluations, school accommodation evaluations, and guardianship evaluations.
Behavioral Team
Our Behavioral Team provides parent coaching and in-home support, helping families build effective strategies in the environments where they matter most.
Academic Intervention & Executive Functioning Team
Our Academic Intervention and Executive Functioning Team offers academic tutoring, Wilson Reading instruction, and executive functioning skills support to help students build the tools they need to succeed.
Intern Team
Our Intern Team is made up of undergraduate and graduate students participating in NPS's training program, gaining hands-on experience under the supervision of our licensed staff.
